Dictionaries Distributed to Third Graders
Tuesday, October 17 was our club's 14th year funding The Dictionary Project.
In total, we have distributed approximately 1,850 dictionaries to third graders in our community.
The goal of this program is to assist all third grade students to complete the school year as good writers,
active readers and creative thinkers by providing the students with their own personal dictionaries.
The dictionaries are a gift to each student to use at school and at home for years to come.
Our club includes a personalized sticker in the front cover along with the
four way test and place to write their name.
This year, 120 dictionaries were distributed to third graders at Geneseo and
York Elementary as well as Genesee Country Christian School.
We continue to fund this program because we believe that in this era of iPads and Google Classroom,
the best education still comes from reading books and increasing our vocabulary.
Reading makes a community and a country great. It is the most important skill of all.
It is the starting point for all the economic and social opportunities this world has to offer.
Words are how we connect with the world. A strong vocabulary is important for gaining
knowledge because this is the only way people have of sharing their ideas and thoughts
through communication.
Thanks to PP Sue for making the arrangements for the distribution and Pres.
Steve for making copies of the bookplates which were pasted into the books by
Geneseo Middle School students. Thanks also to everyone who assisted at the schools.
